Pistol League

The Pistol Skill builder at LC&SA is intended for shooters who wish to become more proficient with their handguns. Courses of fire are made up of a number of ‘strings’ requiring 8 to 18 rounds to be fired. The strings of fire involve engaging silhouette targets from close range (as close as 2 yards) to typical defensive shooting distances of up to 15 yards and include strong-hand only, support-hand only, and various firing positions, including firing from behind cover. All strings of fire are timed. 3 magazines are recommended. Revolver shooters are welcome also. Targets are scored and standings are maintained. An awards banquet/meeting/pizza party will be held at the end of the shooting season. Cost: Members $5.00, Non-Members $7.00, Additional Course of Fire, for practice, $2.00

Practical Stage (optional)

Those who have completed the Pistol Skill builder Course of Fire may participate in the Practical Stage. The Practical Stage will involve applying the skills learned in the Pistol League in a practical exercise. Shooters will engage up to nine IDPA targets while using cover, tactical movement, and proper reloads. IDPA scoring will be used.
Cost: Members $2.00, Non-Members $3.00. Scores will be recorded and standings maintained.

Handgun Skills Development (optional)

Instruction will be given to develop skills in the following areas:

  • Chamber and Magazine Checks
  • Safely Loading and Unloading

Always keep the firearm pointed in a safe direction
Always keep the firearm unloaded until ready to use (until instructed to load and make ready)
Always keep your finger out of the trigger guard until ready to shoot (your sights are on the target)

Equipment Needed

Handgun with a 6+ shot capacity suitable for personal protection, Strong side holster
Minimum of 3 speed loaders or magazines, mag holders are recommended
Eye Protection, Ear Protection, Hat

The Bullet Clip

ALWAYS keep the firearm pointed in a safe direction.

This is the primary rule of gun safety. A safe direction means that the gun is pointed so that even if it were to go off it would not cause injury or damage. The key to this rule is to control where the muzzle or front end of the barrel is pointed at all times. Common sense dictates the safest direction, depending on different circumstances.

Quotes

If there could ever be a time for mere catch arguments, that time is surely not now. In times like the present, men should utter nothing for which they would not be personally responsible through time and eternity.
